How Manufacturing AEO works
The systems that ingest, represent, and cite your manufacturing content in AI answers.
Updated 2026-09-29
AEO aligns your content and data to the pipelines AI systems use:
- Discovery: Crawlers, sitemap parsers, doc fetchers, and API ingestors locate your references. Robots rules, uptime, sitemaps, and doc formats decide what’s eligible.
- Representation: Engines extract entities (organizations, products, specs, standards) and normalize them into knowledge stores. Stable IDs, schema.org/Product, and table/attribute hygiene reduce ambiguity.
- Retrieval: Given a task (“select a Class 150 ball valve”), systems retrieve entities and passages. Structure narrows recall; text embeddings fill gaps.
- Answering: Models compose answers and attach citations. Short, atomic references and canonical spec pages are easier to cite verbatim.
Manufacturing constraints:
- Specs are king. Dimensions, materials, tolerances, certifications, and operating envelopes must be explicit and unit‑safe.
- Synonyms and standards. Map industry terms (ASME, ISO, NEMA) and equivalents to disambiguate products.
- Lifecycle. Obsolete/replaced SKUs should redirect with clear supersession notes.
Design your stack to supply authoritative, machine‑legible references at each stage.
